Accommodations / Assistive Devices

For students who require adaptive devices, or accommodations such as:

·

Auditory Trainers for the hearing impaired and ADHD students.

·

Student proximity to front of room for hearing impaired and ADHD students so he/she can be closer to the teacher and any class-presented visual aids/presentations

·

For students with hearing impairments, proximity also helps with lip reading.

·

Printed Handouts of the Webquest and other documents, checklists, and rubrics may also be handed out for students with hearing or visual impairment.

·

Graphics Tablet (an alternate input device) with new words and pictures for new terms that will be found on the Webquest can be provided.

·

Alpha Smart with new terms for this lesson already entered for the students with ADHD and Tourette's syndrome.

·

Computer modifications for a student with CP could include: alternative keyboards, sticky keys, slow keys, and a mouse with a headset like device so that the student could convey directions to the computer by moving his/her head. A scanning system adjusted to the student's needs would present him/her with an array of letters, phrases, and numerals so that he could select a message from the screen. This would help him/her be heard more easily in the group and class.

·

Speech teacher, Special Ed Teacher, or teacher's aide will assist the students who require assistance as per their IEPs or 504s. These professionals are some of the Principals of an Effective Collaborative team.

should be provided.

The SMART Board™ Interactive Whiteboard could also be used to project copy of handouts/checklists, rubrics and other documents for visual support for disabled students (ADHD, Autistic, Hearing Loss, CP) and as benefit to all students.
